Who Am I?

I’m Leselle, the midwife behind Salt and Clay Midwifery. I am deeply passionate about midwifery, and can talk about it for hours! But when I’m not visiting women and families, I can usually be found in water- snorkelling in the ocean, paddleboarding up a river, floating in a hot bath- I love it all. And when I’m tucked up indoors, I’m watching comfort shows on repeat, while dabbling in some craft like sewing or embroidery. Oh and cuddling with my snuggly little cat.

Qualifications and Experience

I graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery dual degree in 2013.

I then completed additional qualifications in prescribing and diagnostics (Prescribing for Midwives, Griffith University), which enabled me to become an endorsed midwife and enter private midwifery practice.

I am currently undertaking a Master of Primary Maternity Care at Griffith University.

I’ve spent the last ten years working in a range of hospital-based midwifery services- from busy tertiary hospitals to rural birth centres. Throughout this time I have held a number of positions, including Midwifery Group Practice midwife, Midwifery Educator, and Clinical Midwife Consultant. I am grateful for these experiences, however am now thrilled to offer midwifery care that more deeply aligns with my philosophy, providing midwifery continuity of care in women’s homes.

My Midwifery Philosophy

I hold a profound respect for pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding, and believe that when unhindered, these usually unfold as normal physiological events. My goal is to provide a safe space in which each woman can openly express their needs and their power, while providing holistic support that responds to each individual. I am a firm believer in each person’s autonomy and ability to make their own choices, and my intention as a midwife is to offer information and support in making those choices. I have a particular passion in supporting gender and sexuality diverse families, and offer safe and understanding care for all pregnant and birthing people.
